Hello again all,
It turned out to be a pretty cool week this week. G got to go on a field trip to the zoo, L played kindergarten mom and chaperoned. She said it was a very exhausting day. I can only imagine ...
Later this week, we had a special treat here on post ... the guys and gals from 'Ace of Cakes' had a gig here and as part of their gig, they did a personal showing for all the soldiers and families. It was way cool, L got to go.
They used the Army Dining Facilities while they were doing their gig and then proceeded to make one for the Army team. L said it was awesome, a Blackhawk with real working parts ...
H has started volunteering at a horse stables here and nearby is a great hike that runs up to this Lighthouse. It is near the southeast tip of the island, and as things go, that is where the majority of the humpback population hangs out while they are here in the Hawaiian waters during the winter months. I did the hike this morning and the views are just awesome. As I was going up, there were so many people making this hike and it was such a great morning that I couldn't help but give a friendly hello to most and I noticed one person in particular, Dog the Bounty Hunter's wife. (If you don't know these 2 shows, you are missin' out!!) L was so jealous, she is one of their big fans. Sorry, I didn't take pics, didn't want to be an idiot taking pics of her on her morning walk.
On returning to go home, I made a pit stop on a roadside turn-out and took some shots. The area off to the right below is where I took some time for viewing from the lighthouse and saw many, many whale spouts and some good splashing, but the whales were just too far out to get a clear view.
A lady at the lookout said that on Thursday, they were almost right up against the coastline, infront of the lighthouse, and you could see their whole body outline in the water from the viewing area just above. (The lighthouse, below, would be located just about a 1/4 mile off to the right of the picture above.)
Also, during the pit stop, I took a look at the beach and saw quite a few people 'catchin' some waves' doing some body surfing. You can see a bunch here on the right side of the pic.
This guy got a good one and rode it quite a while. It looked like fun until I looked down and saw him tumbling through the water as he became part of the rolling wave that is gaining on him from his left here.
All-in-all a pretty cool week. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous, mid-80's nearly every day and no sign of the Hawaiian winter rainy season (knock on wood). I'm beginning to see why they call it 'Paradise!' But never fear, I still miss the snow ... sometimes!!
